Privacy Policy

SplitPocket is a marketplace that connects people who want to share the cost of subscriptions they already have. This policy applies to everyone who uses SplitPocket, including hosts and members.

We collect information in two ways. Some information you give us directly, and some we collect automatically when you use SplitPocket.

Information you give us

When you sign up or use SplitPocket, you may give us:

• Your name.
• Your phone number.
• Your email address.
• Your password.
• Your contact preferences.

Payment information

We do not store your card or bank details on our own servers. When you make or receive a payment on SplitPocket, our payment partners process and store that information. Our payment partners currently include Flutterwave and Paystack. Each partner has its own privacy policy explaining how they handle your payment information, and we encourage you to read them on their websites.

We do not collect your BVN, NIN, or any other government ID number directly. If identity verification is ever required, it happens through our payment partners and not on SplitPocket itself.

Information we collect automatically

When you visit or use SplitPocket, we automatically collect:

• Your IP address.
• Your browser and device type.
• Your operating system.
• How you use SplitPocket, including pages visited and actions taken.
• Your general location, based on your IP address.

We collect this information to keep SplitPocket secure, fix problems, and understand how people use the platform.

We use your information to:

• Create and manage your account.
• Process payments through our payment partners.
• Verify subscription renewals before releasing funds to hosts.
• Keep SplitPocket safe and prevent fraud.
• Respond to your questions and support requests.
• Send you updates about your account or transactions.
• Send you marketing messages, if you have agreed to receive them.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

• Our payment partners (Flutterwave and Paystack), so they can process your payments.
• Service providers who help us run SplitPocket, such as analytics and communication tools.
• Government bodies or regulators, if we are required to by law.
• A new owner, if SplitPocket is ever sold, merged, or transferred to another company.

We use cookies and similar tools, such as Google Analytics, to keep SplitPocket working properly and to understand how people use the platform.

You can turn off cookies in your browser settings. If you do this, some parts of SplitPocket may not work properly.

If you give us permission, we may send you marketing messages by email or WhatsApp. This includes updates about SplitPocket, new features, and our WhatsApp community.

You can opt out of marketing messages at any time by:

• Clicking unsubscribe in any marketing email.
• Contacting us directly at support@getsplitpocket.com.

Even if you opt out of marketing, we may still send you messages about your account or a transaction, since these are not marketing messages.

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we delete your personal information, except where we are required to keep it for longer.

We keep records related to payments and transactions for up to 6 years, in line with financial recordkeeping laws in Nigeria. This helps us handle disputes and meet our legal obligations.

We take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect your information. This includes secure storage and limiting access to only the people who need it to do their job.

No method of storing or sending information over the internet is completely safe. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee it will never be accessed without permission.

SplitPocket is only for people aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

If you believe we have collected information from someone under 18, contact us at support@getsplitpocket.com, and we will delete it.

You have the right to:

• Ask us what personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct information that is wrong.
• Ask us to delete your information.
• Withdraw your consent to marketing at any time.

To use any of these rights, contact us at support@getsplitpocket.com. We will respond in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

SplitPocket currently operates in Nigeria, and our services are priced in naira. Your information may be stored using cloud service providers, some of which may be located outside Nigeria. Where this happens, we take steps to keep your information protected in line with this policy.

We have not yet appointed a Data Protection Officer. For now, send all privacy questions and requests to support@getsplitpocket.com.

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make any important changes, we will let you know by posting a notice on SplitPocket or sending you a message directly.
